Eco-Shave
Will Eco-Shaving save the world? Probably not. But switching to eco-friendly shaving products (and habits) is just one of the many, small things you can do....
If you haven't tried Pacific Shaving Oil yet, I highly recommend it. I was sent a sample to try and I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. I'm just used to foam I guess - it seemed like a requirement for shaving, as stupid as that sounds.
Pacific Shaving Oil does not foam at all - it's blend of all natural ingredients including sunflower oil, avocado oil, aloe vera leaf juice and cucumber extract...and scented with essential oils of tangerine, grapefruit and bergamot! It goes on super smooth and it leaves your skin feeling very soft afterward. It helps prevent nicks and razor burn too! I'm a total convert!
The true beauty of this product is in its small package. You only need 6-8 drops at a time (but I'm way too impatient for drops - I squeeze out a tiny bit into my palm), so a 1/2 oz bottle (about $6.95) is good for up to 100 shaves! That takes up 95% less space than a shaving cream can! It also means less energy used for transportation. And as icing on the cake, Pacific Shaving plants a tree for every bottle purchased!
A nice accompaniment to my shaving oil was a recycled razor, sent from Recycline. Their razors are ergonomically designed, come in fun colors and have a handle made from 100% recycled plastic, including 65% from recycled Stonyfield Farms yogurt cups! I'm just thrilled to know that someone's thinking of ways to use those #5 cups that are NOT recyclable around here.
Even the packaging is eco-friendly. The plastic case is made from renewable wood sources and can be reused as a travel case. My only complaint in using the product was that the 'lubricating strip' (a dubious requirement of all razorblades these days) fell off after only a couple uses.
When you are done with your razor (and the case), download a postage-paid label and send it back to Recycline (or recycle it yourself if your community takes #5 plastic). They will have it made into plastic lumber for things like picnic tables.
And finally, there's those shaving habits. Shaving in the shower...that's got to stop...and that goes for ME too!
