We are leaving today on a road trip out East to our favorite beach spot - Assateague Island! It's a 1200 mile trip - that's about 20 hours of driving time each way! We try our best to be healthy and eco-minded while on vacation but inevitably some junk food makes it's way into our car, along with the wasteful packaging that goes with it. (I did get some great tips for healthy road trip snacks from my Facebook fans, which will help!)
After sitting on my butt in the car for a couple of days I will be ready for some real exercise! But there's no gym on this protected national seashore. I'll have to make due with what nature provides - a sandy beach (perfect for an early morning run or a bit of yoga) and the rough & tumble ocean (body surfing!) We're also holding a beach Olympics - complete with volleyball tournaments and silly games like tug of war, sack hops and egg & spoon races. Hopefully I will find a way to burn off more calories than I eat (and keep on track with the Go Green Get Fit challenge) because the beach camping food is incredible. Wish me luck and I'll see you back here later next week!
How do you manage exercise on vacation?

Biking's always a great idea at Assateague and Chincoteague! Have a great trip!

There is a great Organic Store on Rt 50 heading towards Ocean City, MD. You can stop in and get some healthy snacks. Also great farm stands along the way but organic would be your best bet. Enjoy your run!

Have fun out there! Chincoteague has a relaxed atmosphere and the beauty of unspoiled nature, you can't help but fall in love with the Islands there.

Thanks for the tip about the organic store Debbie. I did see what looked like a more natural focused grocery store somewhere along the way but we didn't need anything at that point so I didn't go in. Maybe next year!
