I can tell we're getting older by our parties. The food is healthier and we don't drink as much. It's probably a good thing...
Last weekend we had a big bash and one of the things we served was a trio of dips including hummus, caponata and this fabulous Spicy Red Lentil Dal from Cooking Light. Flavored with cumin, turmeric, coriander, coconut milk...it rocks!! (it's in the biggest bowl)
I also made these Dried Fig and Apricot Balls. Very yummy and just a bit sweet. I think they would make a great afternoon snack - but my kids think otherwise. Here's the recipe:
Dried Fig and Apricot Balls
1 cup blanched and peeled almonds
1 cup walnuts
12 dried figs
24 dried apricots
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg (I used pumpkin pie spice)
2/3 tsp. ground cinnamon
3 T honey
2-4 T sweet white wine like Muscat (you could easily substitute apple juice for this)
Throw everything into the food processor and whiz away! Make them into little balls. That's it! They can be made way ahead (up to 2 months they say) - that's why I made them!
That looks great! I am sure that it will be perfect for my picky eater diet!! Thank you for the nice post and for the recipe!
