If there was ever a good time to stock up on organic, local and healthy food it is NOW!! Cooking and baking season is here in full force and I'm telling ya - there are a lot of good deals out there! As I was zipping through my co-op yesterday I noticed a lot of good things on sale that can be stored in the pantry for later:
Local, organic squash in many varieties (including pie pumpkins!)
- Local and organic apples (including honeycrisp - my favorite!)
- Organic Valley butter (locally produced)
- Lots of baking supplies like organic flour, fair trade sugar and chocolate
- Organic stock and broth in tetra-paks (I always have a bunch of these on hand - they make awesome soup starters)
- Organic freeze and bake rolls (I keep these stocked in the freezer for weeknight meals)
I'm betting that your local store has a lot of these same things on sale. So when you're out shopping for that big Thanksgiving dinner, keep in mind that prices might be heading back up after the holidays. And if you are looking for more ways to save money (who isn't these days?) check out these resources for coupons and specials on natural and organic products:
- Sign up for Eating Well Magazine's HealthESavers Coupons (on right hand side of home page - under Free Newsletters). It's a monthly email and it always includes a coupon for Organic Valley, which I use regularly.
Speaking of Organic Valley - go to their site to find even more coupons for organic dairy goodness! Sign up for their mailing list and they will send you even more - I just got a mailing today!
- A quick google search of 'organic coupons' brought me to this list on About.com of organic grocery coupons. These links almost always involve signing up for the manufacturers website - but it could be worth it to get coupons for the foods you love!
- Keep track of the sale products at Whole Foods by downloading the weekly sale brochure at your local store or subscribing to the company's Whole Deal email that is filled with coupons, recipes and money-saving tips.
- Check the National Cooperative Grocer's Association for a listing of locations around the country that participate in the Co-op Advantage program. They offer monthly specials and send out quarterly coupon books to participating co-op members.
- If you live in the Twin Cities area, check out the latest deals from The Co-op Advantage - most Twin Cities area co-ops participate in the program.
Thank you for this post! I really like Organic valley but have stopped buying them and opted for the cheaper stuff. I"m so glad I can get what's good for me now :)
