I would like to start refusing receipts. The only problem I have is that to keep track of our budget, I enter receipts into an excel document. Maybe I should text myself the store and amount instead of taking the paper receipt...as with many other things, it's not that it takes a lot of mental energy to maintain the habit, but just making the small change seems to be the hard part. Thanks for your post. I hope it will be the push I need to make that small change for this week.

It feels great to refuse receipts-there are some I need to keep for our records and others that I can easily refuse. The cashier always looks at me cross eyed for a few seconds before it registers. I love the idea of bringing your own container. Thanks for the tips!

Here is another idea: Find some green containers and use them for when you go out to dinner. Doggy bag? You provide the container. No more of that horrible foam stuff! You can rinse and reuse again and again.

These are great ideas. I've never thought of refusing receipts!

Yeah, I agree - it would be hard to refuse all receipts. I save receipts for anything I might need to return!

@sueon - great point about bringing your own containers for restaurant leftovers or takeout! I try to remember but I'm not that good at it yet!
