My mother gave me a very special gift for Christmas. A wall hanging made from repurposed neckties. But these weren't just any neckties - they were my dad's.
My father passed away in March of 2011. He was a university professor and I'm pretty sure he wore a necktie every single day that he taught a class. He was traditional that way.
As you can see, an incredible amount of work went into this wall hanging. And my mom didn't just make one of them - she made three! One for each of her 3 girls.
I've done some little crafts with neckties - like this necktie bag tutorial for my book that I posted on the blog awhile back - but I can't imagine taking on a big project like this one. Isn't it amazing?
This is a gift I will cherish forever. I vividly remember my dad wearing these ties and every time I look at the wall hanging, I think of him. Not many gifts have such lasting power.
Did you receive any extra special holiday gifts this season?
P.S. If you are into necktie crafts, I discovered a flickr group called Sewing with Neckties that has some pretty amazing stuff!

What a beautiful, thoughtful and creative gift. Is it quilted?
